Projects, policies and programmes
We undertake consultation for programmes, policies and projects according to specific scope, process and consultation principles set out by the Land Transport Management Act 2003.
Land transport rules
We undertake consultation on behalf of the Minister of Transport for the making of land transport rules. The Minister has a statutory responsibility under the Land Transport Act 1998 to notify the intention to make the rule and to consult with interested groups on the proposed rule.
We go beyond the minimum statutory requirements by maintaining a database of interested groups and individuals and undertaking extensive consultation on each rule. Submissions received on draft rules are summarised and analysed and the rule redrafted to take into account the submissions received. If necessary, we undertake further consultation with key groups before submitting a proposed rule to government.
Policy - planning and management of land transport activities
We consult and communicate with relevant organisations and individuals whenever we substantively develop, enhance or review policy around the planning and management of land transport activities. These are activities that can be funded from the national land transport fund. Appendix 3 of the Planning, programming and funding manual details this consultation and communication process.

- P25 pilot specification
The NZ Transport Agency has released a pilot version of the P25 Specification for Calcined Bauxite for trial and comment. We welcome your feedback.
The period of P25 trial and consultation is from February 2012 to April 2013.

Kāpiti Coast District Council and the NZTA are looking at how the current State Highway 1 might be modified once the proposed MacKay's to Peka Peka expressway takes over the state highway role. Public feedback was sought on possible concepts.

The Woodend Corridor Investigation is a consultation on two possible corridors SH1 could take through the Pineacres to Pegasus area. One involves four laning the existing highway that goes through Woodend; the other corridor would involve building a new section of highway that runs to the east of Woodend. We would like your feedback on both corridors. Once both corridors are fully understood the 'best' one will be chosen.
Submissions closed on 19 August 2011. - Proposals for targeted changes to the 2012 National Land Transport Programme co-investment ratios (funding assistance rates)
The NZTA is considering making changes to some funding assistance rates (FARs) and a grant for land transport activities so that any agreed changes can be incorporated into the 2012 National Land Transport Programme (NLTP).

This draft Rule proposed minor changes to 11 existing Land Transport Rules.

The next round of consultation was an opportunity for the community to focus on the design development phase of the expressway, including walking and cycling paths, the Waikanae Bridge, possible mitigation measures such as landscaped bunds or earth mounds, and local road connections.

The main proposal of this amendment was to change the give-way rules at uncontrolled intersections or when opposing signals or signs are the same to simplify decision making at intersections and improve safety.
